GROUP REPORT

This report is the group report of the “Wanna Partay” for Computer Graphics III third assignment Musical Typography. The members consist of Lee Chia Hao (1102701003) the leader of “Wanna Partay”, Siow Denyi (1102701728), Tang Yook Meng (1102701988), Noor’ Adilah binti Abdul Aziz (1102702356), Wan Mohd Abrar bin Wan Mohd Sharif (1102700593) and Saw Quan Nen (1102700821). Since from week 9, 7 April 2011, this group project was gave to students of Foundation, required us to band a group. The formation of this group was little time consuming plus with the visual performance of Visual Research and Communication so by the time the submission date is coming, we had to rush the assignment.

Frankly, only four meeting is ever conducted. The first meeting is right after the class that is at 7 April 2011 around 4 in the afternoon. The name of the group “Wanna Partay” is decided together with some ice-breaking.

The second meeting is at 11 May 2011 around 4 in the afternoon, discussing about the roles and problems with the making of this assignment. The reason of this far off postpone in the meeting because of another major project is getting in the way. The idea working and brainstorming is distributed to Tang Yook Meng, she is experienced at the ideation sketches. The visual effect will be contributed by Noor’ Adilah. The audio component is up to Siow Denyi while the design and animation work have been taken by the leader, Lee Chia Hao and his assistant, Wan Mohd Abrar. The last is the recorder and reporter for the project, Saw Quan Nen.

The third meeting is at 16 May 2011 around 4 in the afternoon, problem shooting in errors of the making of the assignment and presentations of all members contributed. The ideation given by Tang was applicable and accepted while Wan and Lee still working on the font presentation and know moving along with the ideation given. The visual effect is determined that only black and white thus no difficulty for Noor’ Adilah. The audio chosen to be featured is “I Got a Feeling” by Black Eye Peas around 4 minutes and 52 seconds which condensed to around a minute pass.

The last meeting is at 17 May 2011 around 2 in the afternoon, the last clarification of all elements of the making of each role and merging it to one. At this day, all are merged in to a complete musical typography.

Most of the work produced is based on Adobe After Effect and Adobe Flash and After Effect played a vital role of effect editing and manipulation for the whole part of the assignment. We prefer After Effect as more effects are available and easier to create with this software but Flash is also crucial as After Effect has its shortage which can be filled by Flash.

In this project, we had transversed through a lot of experiences and emotions. At the start, we have to keep in the tempo and beat plus with the lyric of the song. It required a lot of concentration and patience. Furthermore, we encounter a very disturbing obstacle – the limit of our skill. We found out that we cannot freely manipulate the function provided by Adobe Flash and After Effect in professional way. So often we found ourselves looking and sticking with the guides and tutorials provided online. That was the worst part. After the complete of the musical typography, we only found out the joy of making it. Yes, the process of multimedia is not applaud-able but at the end when the end product emerged, a sense of pride and joy come and we become handier with Adobe softwares.

At last, we like to thank all lecturers that were there for us: Puan Juhanita, Kak Nor and Madam Lydia. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for teaching us and guiding us so that this project is a success.

The Process and Making

This the beginning of the production of our Computer Graphics III Musical Typography.

Featuring Black Eye Peas "I Gotta Feeling". Import to Comp 1. Be reminded that all layer is insert with 3D Layer option and Camera and Motion Blur setting mode.



For start, we input around 15 seconds to the introduction layer. Then we insert the background (note that we insert it for few times) and insert text with Powerstream 'Wanna Partay Production" by Positioning combine with the effects of Turbulence Displace, Blur with Fast Blur after 2 seconds and then fade out, join by " Black Eye Peas I Gotta Feeling" with same element.



The musical typography last for around 58 seconds .Then we begin the first line. "Let's Do it"4 times with Null Object layer ,form up five rectangle space of position for the four "DO IT" and coursing up the movement of the camera from middle to right then to bottom after that to left and finally above "LET'S". The movement is tied with the lyric, of course.



Then, after & then mask in the 'DO IT' two times then the rest of the movement is manipulated by Null Object layer.



Then, the process is repeated by masking in text and positioning the appearance of "AND", "LET'S" and "DO IT". Slightly transform the view of camera as if view from above to bottom.Then turn back to original position.


"HERE WE ARE" to HERE WE GO" and "EASY COME EASY GO" change by positioning then "ROCK" is apllied with time vary stopwatch with fast blur.


Then "NOW WE ON" is normal positioning but "TOP" is the multiple words in masking at Y rotation 90 going up.


After that, "FEEL THE" come out by masking and "SHOT" is decorated with Fast and Radical Blur Effect. When come to "BODY ROCK IT", at ROCK perform a z rotation anti-clockwise 90 then at IT perform another z rotation clockwise 180. "DON'T STOP" part is strectched by STOPPPPPPPPPPPPP in masking.



The rest of the assignment is base on the same concept of movement like masking, positioning, fast, radical and light blur and Y and Z rotation.


The ending last for 15 seconds and credits is 7seconds and same framework as the introduction.
